Kick-Off! COSY

Uitnodiging Kick-off conferentie COSY project – ‘Jongeren, samenleving en participatie: nieuwe perspectieven op veiligheid’

Werk jij met jongeren in maatschappelijk kwetsbare situaties? Bots je soms op spanningen rond veiligheid, op beleid dat wringt met wat je in de praktijk ziet gebeuren? Merk je dat signalen van jongeren moeilijk een plek krijgen?

Dan willen we jou er absoluut bij op de kick-off conferentie van COSY (COmmunity Safety through Youth participation).

Waarom deze kick-off?

Gedrag van jongeren wordt al snel als overlast, non-participatie of zelfs dreiging geïnterpreteerd. Maar kunnen we er ook op een andere manier naar kijken?

Wat betekent het wanneer jongeren afhaken op school?
Wat vertellen spanningen of conflicten over hun relatie met de samenleving?
Hoe ervaren zij hun plek in de publieke ruimte?

Tijdens deze kick-off verkennen we aan de hand van de methodiek ‘flip thinking’ (‘omdenken’) hoe we problemen kunnen ombuigen naar kansen en wat dit betekent voor praktijk en beleid.

Want met beleid dat vooral inzet op controle en sanctionering bestaat het risico dat signalen verloren gaan. Dat gevoelens van onveiligheid blijven bestaan, bij zowel buurtbewoners als jongeren. Tijd dus om het anders aan te pakken!

Uitwisseling met mensen uit jeugdwerk, beleid en andere sectoren
Kritische reflecties op wat we vandaag doen en wat anders kan
Concrete handvaten om signalen uit de praktijk sterker te laten doorwerken

- Online versus offline veiligheid: Hoe digitale spanningen doorwerken in de publieke ruimte
- Gender & veiligheid: Verschillende veiligheidsbeleving bij jongeren
- Sport & groepsdynamiek: Veiligheid in en rond sportcontexten
- Jeugdzorg & kwetsbaarheid: Hoe systemen veiligheid kunnen versterken of net ondermijnen
- Publieke ruimte & stedelijk ontwerp: Hoe infrastructuur veiligheid beïnvloedt

Over COSY

COSY is een samenwerking tussen Uit De Marge vzw en de Amsterdamse Jongerenwerk Academie (AJA) en kadert binnen het Europese CERV-programma (2026–2028).

Samen met lokale besturen en jeugdwelzijnsorganisaties uit Vlaanderen en Nederland zet het project in op wat vaak ontbreekt binnen veiligheidsdebatten, namelijk de stem, ervaring en kracht van jongeren zelf.

Niet door symptomen te bestrijden, maar wel door de oorzaken van onveiligheid en uitsluiting aan te pakken. Lokaal, concreet en samen.

Invitation Kick-off Conference COSY Project – ‘Young People, Society and Participation: New Perspectives on Safety’

Do you work with young people in socially vulnerable situations? Do you sometimes encounter tensions around safety, or policies that clash with what you see happening in practice? Do you find that signals from young people struggle to find a place?

Then we absolutely want you there at the kick-off conference of COSY (COmmunity Safety through Youth participation).

Why this kick-off?

The behaviour of young people is quickly interpreted as nuisance, non-participation or even a threat. But can we also look at it differently?

What does it mean when young people drop out of school?
What do tensions or conflicts tell us about their relationship with society?
How do they experience their place in public space?

During this kick-off we explore, using the ‘flip thinking’ methodology, how we can turn problems into opportunities and what this means for practice and policy.

Because with policies that focus primarily on control and sanctioning, there is a risk that signals get lost. That feelings of insecurity persist, for both residents and young people. Time to do things differently!

About COSY

COSY is a collaboration between Uit De Marge vzw and the Amsterdamse Jongerenwerk Academie (AJA) and is part of the European CERV programme (2026–2028).

Together with local authorities and youth welfare organisations from Flanders and the Netherlands, the project focuses on what is often missing from safety debates: the voice, experience and strength of young people themselves.

Not by tackling symptoms, but by addressing the root causes of insecurity and exclusion. Locally, concretely and together.
